Music Tastes: (eg. Trance, House, Techno etc.)
Anything and everything to be honest! My favourite period has to be the early house days, circa 1988-1990 where most stuff had a piano on it!
Favourite DJ's, Night Clubs, or even artists?:
Oakenfold (check out 'Perfecto Fluoro' which has 'Film Themes' mixed in with the tracks - superb!) Quite like Sasha (especially for his remixing capabilities), Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Roger Sanchez. Artists - all the late 80s stuff, Adamski (the early days of Ibiza!), Tim Simenon, Simon Harris, Beatmasters, S'Express, 808 State etc.
Besides yourself, if you were going to sit down and listen to another eJayers playlist of mixes, who would it be? and why? List up to three.
Joosman (Colin Vogt) - I like his quirky style and the obvious thought that goes into his stuff. (I thought "Run Logan" was superb!)
Majic12 - his remix of my "Let There Be Music" is absolutely superb and deserves a lot of recognition. (I may be slightly biased here, but this remix is seriously excellent!)
I'd also add many other Ejayers to this list: m8y, JD, Paul Macey, Oxygen etc.
If you could offer new ejayers any advice right now...what would it be?
Listen to lots of music of all kinds - try and work out how it's structured - try and emulate that in your 'MIX's.
If you could describe your particular style of music writing, what would it be?
Probably house-based and piano-led!
List your favourite 3 eJay websites that you visit the most? Any of your choice.
PlanetEjay (though this doesn't count!)
Ejay Chart - superb stuff
eJay Clubber UK - Jase is back on top form with the newly added content.
If you had the option of doing a collaboration with any other eJayer right now...who would it be and why? Perhaps we can arrange this for you to be so.
To be honest, I've never done a collaboration due to a lack of time though I'd like to at some
point.
Have you ventured onto MP3 yet, and if so...are you getting the recognition your deserve from the world? List your site here too.
The MP3 site's are: http://www.mp3.com/MarkPenny and
www.besonic.com/markpenny - my best placing on MP3.com was No.2 on the 'Vocal House' chart with "Can't U Feel It?" - I was quite chuffed with that! Pity it was only for two days!!
If you have an MP3 website, what are your best mixes on there? We will link to these as part of the eJay Masters profile to show people what your capable of.
Well, I suppose one would have to be the Fasttrak Competition winner, "Let There Be Music" which was done on DE2. Also, there is 'FreeStyle Flow' which was one of my early 'MIX's on HHEjay - it's got a nice laid-back jazzy feel to it. I did a 'MIX' which used samples from "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" - it was a sort of trance affair, but MP3.com wouldn't host it for obvious reasons.
There's also other stuff there such as "Get The Funk Out!" which although not created with Ejay is an example of my studio-based work.
Finally, would you say you have had good recognition in the eJay world so far, do you think that you really haven't achieved your very best yet?
I think that any recognition I've had is probably due to PlanetEjay (and the previous Ejay sites I've done) as opposed to the 'MIX's I've composed. I suppose my other claim to fame was being contacted by DMA Design (creators of "Grand Theft Auto") and being told 'nicely' to remove a 'MIX' from my site that I did with DE that used some vocal samples from the game!!
